While Hong Kong is often associated with its vibrancy and energy, this work celebrates the poetic and lyrical side of the city with a focus on the cityscape during the early hours. The work pairs an ambient soundscape with a video installation made up of night-time sceneries from Hong Kong imbued with colours of Chinese garden art. The soundscape is produced with layers of acoustic instrumental recording (as opposed to synthetic sounds), embracing the human quality in the creative process. The videos contain overlapping footages, creating an abstract visual impression of Hong Kong’s familiar cityscape. The work’s overall atmosphere is that of a plaintive and contemplative nature, creating a space for reflection.
