Premiere of BBC Radio 3 commission Unlocking in London

As part of BBC Radio 3’s Discovering Music programme, Fung was commissioned to write a new work inspired by artefacts at the Victoria and Albert Museum.  This new work entitled Unlocking was premiered and recorded by the BBC Concert Orchestra with conductor Charles Hazlewood for broadcast later this year.  Fung has written a Composition Diary for the BBC Radio 3 website.

Fung and TANAOU at BBC Electric Proms 2006

Fung was the musical director for the gig given by the indie band The All New

Adventures of Us (TANAOU) at the inaugural BBC Electric Proms.  The band was

Fung expanded his arrangement of Sigur Rós's Glosoli for chorus and orchestra.  It was performed by the BBC Concert Orchestra again, with conductor Robert Ziegler, at their MusicLab educational project.

Incidental Music for Festival for the Fish

Fung provided music for the play Festival for the Fish by Japanese writer Yu Miri.  In addition to newly written music, excerpts from recording of his Amitabha were used.  It was a production by Yellow Earth Theatre, directed by Kwong Loke.

Asian Premiere of Inner Light in Japan

Fung's Inner Light - Homage to Mark Rothko was selected by Japan Federation of Composers to perform at the opening concert of Asian Composers' League Asian Music Festival 2003 in Tokyo.  It was performed by the Tokyo Kosei Wind Orchestra with conductor Douglas Bostock.

Premiere of a new work for jazz orchestra

Fung was commissioned by the Southampton University Jazz Orchestra to write a piece for their Composers' Concert featuring all new original music.  Fung decided to make good use of the "improvising musicians", and the result was a piece that incorporates a large amount of group improvisation.  The "score" consists of 5 pages of instruction.  It featured Fung on the piano at the premiere.

Fung conducted his contemporary music ensemble ensemble "f" in a charity concert for Leukaemia Busters.  Programme included Mindaugas Urbaitis's Lithianian Folk Music (UK premiere), Gavin Bryars' By the Vaar for solo jazz bassist & ensemble, Peteris Vasks' Cantabile, Finzi's Romance, Morton Gould’s Elegy and Ryuichi Sakamoto’s Little Buddha.

Improvisation performance in Isle of Wight



Fung was invited by the British artist Tim Johnson to perform at the closing party of his solo exhibition Out of Hand. Performance included two improvisation sets with Tim Johnson (on various homemade instruments), a saxophonist and a dancer.
